Extreme events were observed in summer 2020 throughout the circumpolar Arctic. In this T MOSAiC article, Warwick Vincent and Derek Mueller describe changes taking place along the northern coast of Canada over the last few years in the ‘Last Ice Area’, including collapse of the Ward Hunt Ice Shelf (see photo). The thick, persistent sea ice of this area has a strong influence on the coastal terrestrial environment. The article can be downloaded here.
